During the pandemic, I wanted to stay involved with groups that shared my desire and passion for positive change. I applied to the inaugural cohort of the University of Oregon Legislative Scholars group.
In collaboration with our great program director, Kimberly Koops, I got an article advocating for the Pell Grant published in a local newspaper. I wanted to use my voice to support the Pell program that allows thousands of students to obtain higher education.
As one of three returning peers, we were elevated to Senior Legislative Scholars. It was an amazing experience to attend Oregon's state capital in Salem to lobby for higher education funding and grants for tribal communities.
